Howdy!

We are a group of scientists with a simple yet critical mission. We aspire to understand how our coastal and marine environments function and provide solution-focused knowledge for policymakers, environmental managers and the general public. This mission drives our teaching and degree programs and offers many career opportunities for our students.

Our students can work from the north to the south poles and everywhere in between, studying the interactions of sediments and rocks with air and seawater, the distribution of chemical elements and molecules, and the physical movement of water and pollutants. They engage in projects that develop management and resilience strategies for ocean resources and coastal communities, such as storm surge barrier systems and coastal flooding. These projects directly inform state and national legislators and environmental managers. Our students and their research create solutions for a better future by integrating natural and social sciences to map problems facing our coastal and marine environments.

More than ever before, we need young people to be inspired to face the world's environmental challenges and make responsible decisions toward a sustainable future. Our degree programs, research opportunities and faculty training give students the foundation and knowledge to face these challenges head-on.

We hope you'll join us in finding solutions for a better future!
