Howdy!
We are so excited you are exploring an education through our department's diverse and exciting degree programs.
Our courses are grounded in both the social sciences and blue humanities, providing our students with a unique interdisciplinary curriculum founded in maritime studies. Our degrees allow students to build marketable, transferable and multidisciplinary knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their chosen fields.
Our maritime studies degree allows students to choose classes across a breadth of disciplines, including political sciences, literature, public policy, anthropology, history, blue humanities and museum studies. Our program allows you to tailor your degree to the subjects you're passionate about. This degree is ideal for students seeking to understand humanity's vital and complex relationships with the sea and the ever-growing blue economy.
In addition to the maritime studies degree, the department offers two university studies degrees with different focuses: a marine environmental law and policy concentration, which provides a maritime-focused pathway for those interested in law school, and a tourism and coastal community development concentration, which prepares students for careers in the tourism industry and coastal development, policies and legislation.
Various minors are also available through the department and the Texas A&M University College Station campus to further supplement our degrees. Popular choices include maritime studies, anthropology, English, history and museum studies. Another popular choice is our Diving and Technology and Methods minor, which combines scuba training and certification, along with scientific diving experience and applications.
Whatever your course of study, our faculty are committed to your success and want to work with you. You can pursue several high-impact learning opportunities, including the National Model United Nations in Washington, D.C., our Common Reader Program, study abroad and various exciting internship opportunities.
